Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute Set For October 28 at the Wiltern in LA

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has inspired plenty of tributes, namely the midnight showings in theaters with fans singing and dancing in the aisles. The now-defunct Harwan Theater in Mt. Ephraim, New Jersey, where I grew up, hosted Friday night showings and it was always a thrill to make fun of the drunk idiots that were singing “I remember…doing the Time Warp” out of key while stumbling in the aisles. Ah, memories. The Rocky Horror Picture Show always inspires SUCH joy.

Well, the mother of all TRHPS tributes is the star-studded rock-of-all-ages tribute and Costume Ball, which will be held Thursday, October 28 at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute is being produced by Lou Adler and Kevin Duncan and directed by Kenny Ortega. Big names like Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Billy Idol, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, and Jason Segel are among the talent already signed on for this one-night-only live event with other celebrated actors and singers to be announced shortly. The evening will benefit the Painted Turtle, one of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camps.

“It is going to be a night out to remember for a very long time,” said Adler. “All of these amazing artists performing those classic songs plus a costume ball; but, most of all, it will benefit the special kids who attend the Painted Turtle Camp.”

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is hailed as the king of Midnight cult films and is in distribution longer than any film in the history of motion pictures. Adler, who is one of the original producers of the film and a founder of the Painted Turtle, will present a hybrid musical event combining the film version with select live musical performances from the film. General admission tickets will be $50 – $100, available by calling 1800-745-3000 or at www.livenation.com. VIP tickets and packages, including the post party Costume Ball are available from 5B Events at 310.559.9334.

Since opening in 2004, the Painted Turtle has provided children throughout California who suffer from chronic and life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to rediscover the ordinary joys of being a child through a year-round camp and hospital outreach programs. To date, over 12,864 children and their families have been served by over 5,631 doctors, nurses and program volunteers. No child or family pays to attend camp.
