Back in April, Jonah Hill told Collider that the much-touted, very expensive screenplay “The Adventurer’s Handbook” was going to be “the next movie I’m shooting.” To refresh your memory, the project penned by Hill, Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, the film will follow four childhood friends who embark on a global adventure inspired by the stories of explorers detailed in Mick Conefrey’s book “The Adventurer’s Handbook: Life Lessons From History’s Great Explorers.”

Yet, they all play pretty flawed characters. Jason Segel has the role of talented musician, but alcoholic who never got his act together instead becoming a backup piano player. Hill will play an engineer isolated from his family and Jason Schwartzman plays a spoiled and cowardly three-time Grammy winner. So who’s that fourth friend? They hadn’t cast that actor yet.

But, as things happen in Hollywood, plans change and schedules shift and what seemed as Hill’s surefire next starring gig has now taken a firm backseat to a handful of other projects on the actor’s very busy slate. Catching up again with Collider, Hill revealed that, “Basically, we got greenlit and then we had scheduling conflicts because of Jason Segel and Jason Schwartzman’s television shows ["How I Met Your Mother" & "Bored To Death"]. We basically had to fit it into this window and their shows went over [schedule] or whatever and we just couldn’t do it, and then luckily I got offered ‘Moneyball’ shortly after that.”

The multi-talented Duplass Brothers are embarking on their latest film journey, which will be a stoner comedy starring Jason Segel and Ed Helms. Both actors have a knack for delivering a funny line or two, and they know a little something about “acting” like their under the influence. The film is entitled, Jeff Who Lives at Home and it’s currently set for production over at Paramount.

Jeff Who Lives at Home, will center on two brothers (no surprise there) who are the exact opposite of each other. Segel’s character will be more loose and free-spirited while Helms’ will be “more together but overbearing.” The plot of the film will chronicle a day in the life of the siblings, which will include involvement from their mother and Helm’s wife. The mother has yet to be cast, but the wife will be played by Judy Greer.

Shooting is scheduled to begin next month in Louisiana, and hopefully by that time the mom will be cast. I have to admit that Judy Greer being on board is a major plus, because she’s such a talented comedic actress. She recently appeared on an episode of ABC’s “Modern Family” and was a complete scene stealer. Also, the Duplass Brothers are a great writing and directing duo so we can expect some grade A material from them here.

Team Segel or Cooper? That’s what it appears to have come down to for “Bad Teacher”. It is rumored that Jason Segel and Bradley Cooper are competing for the role of the romantic interest and co-star of the film. Cameron Diaz is already attached to star in the film.

“Bad Teacher” will center around Diaz, who plays a “foulmouthed, gold-digging middle-school teacher who, after getting dumped by her boyfriend, competes with a colleague for the affections of the school’s model teacher.”

“Bad Teacher” was written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who also write for “The Office” and have penned the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel.

PW: And from everything I’ve been hearing you put those songwriting skills to good use in your upcoming Muppets reboot, right?
Jason: Oh yeah! It’s very exciting! We’re getting closer and closer to getting the movie made. It’s such a big complicated franchise to relaunch, so it takes a while. But we’re getting there.

PW: Now, I’m straight out of the “Muppets Take Manhattan” school — what about you?
Jason: Well, I think those three movies are of the same pantheon — “The Muppet Movie,” “The Great Muppet Caper,” “Muppets Take Manhattan.” Those are the ones that I love together. They were made in the span of three or four years, and while the ones after that are pretty good too, those are the great ones.

PW: Sounds like we can expect your version to hew more closely to the format of those then?
Jason: Yeah, I don’t think there’s any reason to approach something so beautiful with a sense of irony. I think that’s one of the things I was afraid of, I know that I come from this Judd group — and I emphasized this to the studio when I pitched it. This isn’t going to be an ironic venture for me. This is coming out of pure love, so don’t expect the Muppets to be dirty!

Since “How I Met Your Mother” kicked off its destined-to-be-classic, small-screen run back in 2005, Jason Segel has established himself as a comedy dynamo on the big screen as well. After a scene-stealing turn in “Knocked Up,” he teamed with his former “Freaks & Geeks” creator Judd Apatow to bring the brilliant “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” to life.

One of the highlights of that film (nude scene not withstanding) was the Dracula opera Jason’s character composed. But his real-life singing sensibilities weren’t a surprise to anyone who had heard Marshall’s Slap Bet song or the random musical interludes that are peppered throughout “HIMYM.”

But the most magical musical moment in the show’s history comes at the end of Monday’s 100th episode when Barney & co. sing an ode to suits. I chatted with Jason about his habit of harmonizing in addition to learning what his favorite episode is and what we can expect from his hotly anticipated big screen Muppet movie reboot!

PopWrap: Congrats on reaching 100 episodes!
Jason Segel: Thank you! It’s the most successful thing I’ve ever been a part of [laughs]. It’s the longest I’ve ever worked on one thing, including school. It’s pretty crazy.

PW: Have the last five years flown by?
Jason: I feel them, I must say. A lot has happened in all of our lives over this stretch. Our girls have kids now, I’ve done some movies, we’ve all kind of grown up.

PW: Same could be said for the show since it’s no longer the “little show that could” but an Emmy-nominated series.
Jason: Yeah, I think the other thing that’s been really nice is, we have always been a show that’s on the bubble. Every year when it was time for the network pick ups, we would find out the day of the upfronts. Now knowing that we’ll be around for a little while is a great feeling.

PW: Did your experience with “Freaks & Geeks” make you more jittery about stuff like that?
Jason: Funny enough it gave me the opposite feeling. I thought “F&G” was so good, but because that didn’t work out, I stopped associating success with quality. They’re two separate things. I’m just satisfied to do good work. So had the show gotten canceled at any point before, I would have been thrilled with the work we’d put out.

PW: Do you have particular favorite episode or moments?
Jason: Alyson [Hannigan] and I know what makes the other laugh and there are some scenes where clearly our focus is to make the other break. And to be honest with you, those are some of my favorite moments.

PW: As for episodes?
Jason: Well, one of the things I think our show does really well is play with the idea of time in such an interesting way. There was a brilliant episode called “The Pineapple Incident” that started with the ending and worked its way backwards, “Memento”-style. I also love this one we just shot called “Jenkins” with Amanda Peet. She works in my office and the whole episode is about whether or not this woman is hitting on me.

PW: That’s next week’s episode that Neil Patrick Harris directed, right?
Jason: Yes, I was so proud of him. Watching all of us pursue our dreams has been amazing and I know directing has been one of his, so I’m glad he got the opportunity.

PW: Whether it’s directing for Neil, or working in songs for your character, it does seem like the show is very welcoming to including in the show things you actors love to do.
Jason: It’s a nice little treat for us to mix it up every five or six episodes. It’s been really cool for me.

PW: Personally I loved your Slap Bet song — but do you have any favorites, either from the show or that you’ve done elsewhere?
Jason: Wow … hmm, I liked the song I performed with “Swell Season” a lot. I also wrote some songs in the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” spin-off with Russell Brand that he performs. I’m really proud of those.

PW: Have you always composed comedic tunes?
Jason: I started writing music for “Freaks & Geeks.” Those were the first songs I wrote. I guess I sort of just had a knack for it, so whenever Judd [Apatow] needed a song, I would give it a try. Then I just kept running with it.

“How I Met Your Mother” airs its 100th episode on Monday Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. on CBS. (Source)
